Eight years ago, residents of Welling Court in the Astoria neighborhood of New York City joined forces with the Ad Hoc Art Gallery to enhance their small community through public art. From its humble beginning, this annual event has mushroomed into a dazzling array of artwork created by a host of prominent muralists, street artists and graffiti writers … both from around the corner and the globe. The 2017 Welling Court Mural Project took place Saturday, June 10th.

Back in 2009, folks living in the Welling Court neighborhood of Queens asked Ad Hoc Art Gallery to help them clean up and enhance their community, and the Welling Court Mural Project was born. Every year since then, Ad Hoc Art invites artists from far and wide to help turn the neighborhood into an open-air art gallery. Their annual block party in June is a celebrated event.

BROOKLYN STREET ART – GRAFFITI 2

The first few snowflakes have begun to fall in Baltimore, and outdoors the scene is calm and bright. That will soon change … for the worse. Weather forecasters say Old Man Winter is hell-bent on walloping the Mid-Atlantic with a wicked winter storm that will leave the area snowbound and as cold as ice. Maryland and surrounding states have already declared a state of emergency. Before hunkering down for the long wintry weekend, Charm City Streets shares with you the remaining graffiti pieces it encountered during visits to Brooklyn in 2015. Hopefully, this art display will bring a welcome splash of color and delight to the drab and dreary weekend ahead.
