BACK IN BROOKLYN

Headlining today’s post … Pin-up Girl by See TF

Recently, my grandchildren were in town for a visit. They live in Seattle so I do not get to see them as often enough as I would like, so over the past three+ weeks I placed pretty much everything on the back burner. Now that they are back home I have completed processing the rest of the images I captured during the two weeks I spent last month in Brooklyn and Williamsburg.

A few years ago, budget cuts forced the elimination of art education in Wynwood schools. That reality was hard to comprehend considering street art and contemporary art galleries were mushrooming and flourishing throughout the rest of this Miami neighborhood. Tougher still was its negative impact upon area students.

Enter The RAW Project, Re-imagining the Arts in Wynwood. With approval of school officials, the RAW Project raised donations and curated artists from around the world to add color to the walls of Jose de Diego Middle School, nurture creativity in the students, and help resurrect and enliven their arts program.

Centered around the Myrtle Avenue-Broadway Station (which the J, M and Z subway lines share), you will find an open air gallery of rich, imaginative murals created by prominent artists from Brooklyn and the four corners of the globe.

Charm City Streets took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather a week or so before Christmas to travel to New York and spend several days exploring the streets of Brooklyn. Since our last visit in August, prominent local, national, and international artists have created fascinating new murals in the Bushwick and Williamsburg neighborhoods.

In mid-October, Charm City Streets traveled to Germany to seek out street art in Munich and Berlin. The trip, as the Germans say, was spitze and wunderbar.
