On New Year’s Eve the Fridge Gallery in Washington, DC brought its 2018 Street Sticker Expo to a close. Artist iwillnot created this event, and over the past five years the art show has grown in size and popularity. DC Street Sticker Expo 4.0 presented thousands of stickers by hundreds of artists from around the world. The major attractions at the 2018 event were the ginormous 8’ square collage by artist Nick Zimbro (@mr.zimbro) and the life-size skateboarder by Hugh Brisman (@hughbrisman).
The flurry of incredible artwork in Graffiti Alley continued unabated this month. Ernest Shaw Jr. painted a stunning tribute to Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, and to John Coltrane, the ever remarkable jazz saxophonist. Megan Lewis created two more beautiful murals in her #blkwomen series next to which Ernest painted a stern-looking portrait of Pablo Picasso. Prior to its grand opening, Baltimore’s dynamic Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn created one of their signature murals on Union Craft Brewing in the new Union Collective at 1700 W. 41st Street in the Hampden-Medfield neighborhood. Their use of color, shape and pattern is striking. The closer you approach the mural the more intriguing the patterns and shapes within patterns and shapes becomes. You gotta check out this fascinating mural … and enjoy all that the Union Collective will soon have to offer.
Several days ago Charm City Streets returned from a week-long photo tour of Art Basel 2016. The streets and avenues in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami were chock full of phenomenal murals by renowned street artists, dope graffiti pieces by masterful writers, galleries containing even more incredible artwork, and much more.
